O'Rourke Cup - Clann v Oran
CLANN NA NGAEL 3-17 1-19 ORAN
GOALS from Fearghus Lennon, Séa Henry and Paul McManus were crucial in a super win over Oran in Johnstown on Friday night.
Clann trailed by eight points at one stage in the first half before a rousing second half performance blew the visitors away, as Ciarán Lennon starred with 0-9. Oran took full advantage of the first half breeze to cruise 0-13 to 0-5 ahead, and kicked four-two pointers in the process. Clann stayed in the game thanks to Josh and Ciarán Lennon as Henry pointed after two 'solo and go' runs when he was fouled.
Left with a mountain to climb when Colin Walsh sent Oran 0-13 to 0-5 ahead, Clann scuppered a massive goal chance for the green, white and gold. Séa Henry pointed again before Clann hit back with their first goal when Michael Harringron capped a super run to feed Fearghus Lennon, who fired home off the post before quickly following up with a point. Clann were back in the game and only trailed 0-13 to 1-7 at the break, and delivered a super second half performance to seal a third win of the campaign.
Josh Lennon and Paul McManus pointed after the restart as Clann started to get on more possession around the middle and began to cut into Oran’s defence. Patrick Fallon’s goal for Oran put them five ahead again, but Clann rallied once more with Ciarán Lennon driving it. He scored two quick two-pointers to turn the game - one from play and one from a free to take it back to two.
With Oran on the ropes, Davy Connaghton’s super block at the back sparked Clann’s best move of the game, when Ciarán Lennon lofted the ball to Paul McManus, who fired into the net. Oran hit back with two more points, but Lennon delivered again with his third two-pointer of the game to square it to set up a grandstand finish.
Clann never blinked coming down the stretch as Oisín Flaherty capped a super solo run and scored. Josh Lennon’s two-point effort came off the bar with five minutes to go but Clann weren’t finished yet, as Josh followed up with another boomer into the square and Séa Henry flicked it home to seal it.
The next outing for our Matrix Bathrooms and Heating sponsored senior men’s team is against St. Brigid’s in Kiltoom on Thursday May, 15th at 8pm.
