Senior Men's Result: Clann 0-13 0-08 Boyle
Our Matrix Bathrooms sponsored Clann na nGael Senior Men's team swept Boyle aside on Friday evening in a comfortable O’Rourke Cup win in Johnstown. Pat Fallon’s men had most of the work done in a super first half performance as the visitors were punished for their wastefulness in front of goal.
Clann led 0-7 to 0-2 at the break as their runners from deep inflicted most of the damage. Paddy Gavin opened the scoring before Alan McManus scored a beauty after fine work from Emmett Kenny. Cathal Duignan pelted over two super scores from wing-back as Boyle struggled to deal with Clann’s physicality. Graham Pettit provided his second assist for Damien Duff to make it 0-5 to 0-2 and become the third Clann defender to score. Fearghus Lennon’s free was swiftly followed by Jason Mulvey’s score from play.
Cathal Feely and Mark O’Connor looked sharp for the visitors but Boyle’s shooting let them down as Niall O’Donnell’s 45’ dropped short. Kenny missed Clann’s best goal chance early in the second half when he flashed wide, but they remained in control for the rest of the game. Fearghus Lennon, Oisín O’Flaherty, Kenny and Kieran Connaghton all fired over from play as Clann’s defence stood firm whenever Boyle tried to find space.
Lennon’s second free of the game opened up an eight-point gap as Fallon rolled the bench to freshen things up. Ian Harney got Clann’s final score of the evening as Boyle kicked 0-4 in a row in the final eight minutes. But it was not enough to turn the game, as Clann sit third in the Division 1 table on 12 points.
The next O’Rourke Cup outing for our Matrix Bathrooms sponsored Senior Men’s team is away to Western Gaels at Nash Park on Friday, July 5th.
