Clann Notes - 15/8/22
Senior Ladies Championship
Supermac's Athlone sponsored Clann Ladies travelled to north of Roscommon town to play Kilbride. The 5-time county champions are always a tough team to break down and with a nest of players kept inside their own half, a swift counter attack is always difficult to contain, teams need to be on their best to overcome them.
After getting the better of their opponents in their last 5 meetings including the 2021 County Final, the visiting Clann ladies were not going to rest on their laurels and take this game for granted. Getting on the scoreboard first settled the visiting team and they would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game. Some sublime scoring had Clann going in at half time 0-02 to 0-06 ahead.
The second half continued at the same pace as the first half, slightly more comfortable as the sweltering heat gently subsided, but the red-hot scoring of Ruth Finlass, Róise & Caoimhe Lennon and Sinead Farrell kept increasing the Clann ladies points total. With the defence well marshalled by captain Orla O’Neill, Kilbride we’re only able to add 4 more points to their total with the game finishing up Kilbride 0-04 0-14 Clann.
Credit to all the Clann ladies who took to the pitch in difficult conditions and ensured it was 2 wins from 2. Next up is a short away trip to St. Brigid's which will no doubt be an exciting game of football.
