Clann Notes - 22/8/22
Men's Senior Championship
Our Matrix Bathrooms sponsored Senior Men travelled to Frenchpark for an important second round Championship fixture against Western Gaels. Visits to Frenchpark are traditionally tough encounters and this meeting proved no different.
The home side started the game stronger and had an early goal, to which Clann replied and the sides were level mid-way through the first half. Clann lost Ultan Harney to an early injury but soldiered on and grabbed their second and third goals late in the first half to leave the half time score at 3-04 to 1-05.
In the second half, Western Gaels staged a comeback while Clann had a black card, leaving the teams level going into extra time. Darra Pettit gathered the ball down the field and went on a run that saw him open up a goal opportunity which was converted by Fearghus Lennon just moments after Western Gaels had hit the crossbar.
Western Gaels got a late point back but it wasn’t enough as Clann ran out 2-point winners and 2 more points for the Championship, leaving themselves and Boyle qualified ahead of their meeting in Dr. Hyde Park in a couple of weeks.
Clann team: David Finneran, Tom Lennon, Darra Pettit, Damien Duff, Paddy Gavin, Dylan Sumner, Cathal Duignan, David McManus, Graham Pettit, Emmet Kenny, Ultan Harney, Shane Pettit, Conor Farrell, Josh Lennon, Fearghus Lennon. Subs: Oisin O’Flaherty, Callum O’Brien, Cathal Callinan, Cathal Shine.
U.13 Div.4 Championship v Kilmore/Shannon Gaels
Kilmore/Shannon Gaels got off to the perfect start with a goal after 2 minutes, but Clann na nGael replied with points from Jeff Keleghan and Rian Mulvihil, followed by a well taken goal by Aaron Martin. The first half was nip and tuck and Clann added further scores through Cillian Gavin and Rian Mulvihil to lead 3-5 to 3-2 at the break.
The half team talk worked for Clann na nGael as they came out of the blocks and took control of the game scoring 2-7 in the first 10 minutes through Sebastian Cullen, Jeff Keleghan, Cillian Gavin (goal), Aaron Martin (goal) and Evan Mimnagh. Kilmore/Shannon Gaels battled well and were very unlucky not to score with some great saves from Clann goalie Ben Gilligan, and a strong performance throughout from the Clann defence.
Clann continued to get the scores in the last quarter through Danial Gaffey, Aaron Martin and Jeff Keleghan and ran out comfortable winners in the end on a score line of 5-18 to 3-2. Best of luck to Kilmore/Shannon Gaels in the remainder of the championship.
