Club Person of the Year 2020 - Eugene Pettit
This year’s club person of the year comes from a family steeped in Clann na nGael tradition. His Grandfather, who he is named after, served as club secretary and county minor board secretary during the 1970s while his father is the current club Vice-Chairman. Our award recipient played underage football for the club at all levels up to and including Senior Championship.
Our award recipient has been the club’s PRO since 2016 and has really excelled in this role bringing it to a whole new level through the effective use of the club’s social media platforms. In 2016 he undertook a project to develop and enhance the club’s website. In recognition of this outstanding work, our award recipient and the club were recognised on the national stage and awarded the MacNamee Award for best GAA website. This award was presented by the GAA President, Aogán Ó Fearghail at a gala dinner in Croke Park.
Our award winner’s technical prowess came to the fore in the past year during the global pandemic when he introduced a highly professional streaming service. This service allows club members locally and across the globe to watch club games on-line during a period when spectators were not permitted to attend games. The professional approach taken to ensure these broadcasts were of the highest standard is typical of the approach tonight’s recipient brings to all tasks that he undertakes on behalf of the club.
Ladies & Gentlemen, for his service to our club for the past year and over many years, the Clann na nGael Club Person of the Year for 2020 and recipient of the Martin McManus Memorial trophy is: Eugene Pettit
