Clann Notes - 14/9/22

  • News

U.14 Girls

This was an enthralling game with end-to-end football and there's no doubt that the result could have gone either way!

Padraig Pearses had the better first half and were 6 points up at half time on a score line 3-06 (15) to 6-03 (21) both teams scoring 9 times each. Much to the delight of the large Clann na nGael support our girls shook off their nerves and put in a superb second half team performance, with Clann Girls scoring 2-04 while collectively curtailing Pearses to only 3 points in the second half...nobody was going home early.

This was an enthralling game with very positive and creative football played throughout, our girls secured their victory over Padraig Pearses by a single point, 5-10 (25) to 6-06 (24).

Well done to all our Clann na nGael girls on a superb team performance and in bringing home to Johnstown our first U.14 Div. 1 title since 2016.

Bord na nÓg Medal Presentations

The medal presentations for our Bord na nÓg players took place last weekend in Johnstown. Well done to all the players who have put in great effort every Sunday and are deserving of their silverware.

Thanks to our trainers who helped every weekend and also to the volunteers and car park assistants earlier today who helped make the event run so smoothly.

U.14 Community Games Connacht Champions

Well done to the Drum/Clonown/Monksland U14 girls football team who won the Connacht Community Games title in Sligo last weekend.

They beat Caherlistrane / Kilcoonagh from Galway in the semi-final, and Belmullet from Mayo in the final.

Well done to all players and coaches.

U.17 Boys Championship

Our Tormey Solicitors sponsored minor team hosted St. Aidan's in Johnstown on Wednesday evening in the U-17 championship. Both sides needed a win to push for a semi-final spot. St. Aidan's got off to a quick start opening the score in the first minute and they dominated a lot of the first half. Clann kept in touch with some great saves from goalkeeper Seán Kelly, and points from Conor Sheehan, Tom Sheehan and a great goal from Shay McGuiness to trail by 5 points at the break.

Clann started the second half well with two points in quick succession, however St. Aidan's hit back with a goal which shifted the momentum.  Both teams were evenly matched in the second half.  Clann's Tom Sheehan scored 2-5 in total, but it was not enough as St. Aidan's held on to won by 5. The other scorers in the second half for Clann were Conor Sheehan, Cian Gilhooly and Ryan Moran. Final score Clann 3.10 St. Aidans 1.21.

Panel: Seán Kelly, Darragh O'Neill, Evan Quinn, Dylan Brady, Eoghan Galvin, Gavin McManus, Conor Feeney, Davie Gavin, Conor Sheehan (0-3), Mark Lennon, Jack Macken, Conor Naughton, Shay McGuinness (1-0), Tom Sheehan (2-5), Kenae Fallon, Cian Gilhooly (0-1), Ryan Moran (0-1), Jack Sumner, Eoin Naughton, Daniel Martin
