Under 14 Division 4 League Final
Clann na nGael 4-9 St. Dominic's 2-13
Clann na nGael met for the third time this season in a pristine Woodmount for the Under 14 Division 4 final. This as a very keenly anticipated final because the teams had already met in the round robin games and in a playoff and while Clann had won those encounters, they were both very close affairs. Everyone anticipated a great game between two very evenly matched teams. They were not to be disappointed.
St. Dominic's dominated in the early stages but sturdy Clann defending kept Dominic's at bay and were two points up after 10 minutes. Clann burst forward and scored a goal, which led to Clann controlling the remainder of the half, and were four points up at the break. Clann widened the gap early in the second half and built up a 7 point lead, with Clann's midfield and forwards working well together to score points and two more goals. However Dominic's piled on the pressure, scoring two goals and bringing Clann's lead down to the minimum. Clann scored a goal of their own to widen the gap again. Dominic's again scored 3 points to bring the gap down to the minimum. Clann and Dominic's exchanged points in the closing stages with Clann's lead alternating between one and two points. In added time, Dominic's got a long free and opted to go for goal. Only herioic Clann defending kept Dominic's at bay. In the end, Clann won on a margin of two points.
This Clann team has shown a never say die attitude in games all season and they needed all their spirit to persevere and win this title against what is an excellent St. Dominic's team. We look forward to meeting them again in the championship later in the year. Well done lads.
