Minor League Div.1Clann na nGael 3-13 0-07 Castlerea St. Kevins
On Sunday last the season commenced for Clann minors with a trip to Castlerea to face the local St. Kevins team in the first round of the Roscommon Minor League Div 1.
A heavy shower and a breeze blowing straight down the field from the town goal made playing conditions awkward for both sides but both teams adapted well and served up a good hours entertainment for the small crowd gathered.
Castlerea settled quicker and had 2 points on the board before Clann opened their account and by the opening third of the half both teams were level. From this stage onwards Clann who were playing with the breeze found scores easier to come by and by half time were leading by 0-9 to 0-5.
The second half opened with Clann adding two further points but at this stage the home side who were wind assisted in this half started to dominate and added two points of their own but couldn’t add anymore despite holding the upper hand due to some wides and some good Clann defending. With 15 mins left Clann finally got a foothold again in the second half and two goals one after another at this stage made the game safe for Clann. The home side continued to press hard and never gave up but Clann were in control at this this stage and added a further 1-2 to run out winners.
The Clann lads put in a good shift and deserved their win but they know that there are tougher days ahead.

U.16 LeagueClann 2-09 0-10 Kilmore/Shannon Gaels/St. Ronan’s
Clann na nGael under-16 boys team got their league campaign off to a good start with a hard-fought win over the North Roscommon combination of Kilmore, Shannon Gaels and St.Ronan’s at Johnstown on Sunday last. Conditions were difficult, with a strong wind, but both teams served up a good game with the outcome in doubt until the final minutes.
The Northern team had the better of the early exchanges but a goal by Conor O’Reilly settled the Clann team and a second goal from John Shine helped them to a narrow half-time lead, 2-2 to 0-6.
The introduction of Ian Harney at the interval and a move which brought Eoin Connaughton to midfield for the second half helped Clann to get the better of the exchanges and three good points in the last ten minutes helped the home team to a 5 point victory.
This was a good win by the Clann lads and, with some injured players to come back into the frame, they can hope to build on this opening performance.
