U.20 Div.1 FinalClann 0-15 1-10 St. Brigids
On Friday night last the last county final of the year took place in Johnstown between old rivals Clann & St. Brigids. The pitch in Johnstown was heavy but stood up well to the game. Both teams produced a good game of football for the large crowd gathered.
Clann settled the quicker of the two sides and dominated the first half playing some very good slick football. Despite the best efforts of the lads from Kiltoom/Cam & Curraghboy, Clann were in control in all sectors of the game and led by 0-10 to 0-2 at half time.
The second half was different as the expected comeback from the visitors came to pass. Clann found scores much harder to come by in this half whilst there opponents kept the scoreboard ticking over. A goal by the visitors with 10 mins to go cut the lead to 3 points but Clann steadied the ship in the closing minutes despite the best efforts of St. Brigids, to run out winners by 2 points on a scoreline of 0-15 to 1-10. After the game Sean Fallon, the Clann captain accepted the cup on behalf of the team from Padraig Naughton from the Roscommon County Board.
The whole Clann panel together with their management team of Jonny Dunning, Seamie Mc Manus, Donie Shine & Ronan Gavin can be happy with their performance and the fact that this is Clann's second U-20 championship title in 3 yrs having won it in 2016 also. It also brought a very successful year on the playing field for the club on the male side with this cup being added to the Fahey Cup, O'Rourke Cup and Tansey Cup.
