Senior Championship

Boyle 1-04 1-17 Clann na nGael
Our Matrix Bathrooms / Kennedys Service Station & Supermacs sponsored senior team qualified for this year’s championship semi-final virtue of a comprehensive victory over Boyle played in ideal conditions in Ballyleague on Sunday afternoon.

Clann had the best of the early exchanges and were two points up in as many minutes virtue of scores from Ciaran Lennon and David McManus. Against the run of play Boyle broke from defence and scored a well taken goal with just three minutes of the match played. Clann continued to dominate the first half with further scores from Ronan Gavin, Matt Scally, Ciaran Lennon, Darra Pettit and David McManus. This provided Clann with a comfortable 0-11 to 1-1 lead at half time.

The second half started with a penalty being awarded to Boyle which goalkeeper Ronan O’Reilly dived to his left to save. This rallied Clann once again and five unanswered points from Jamie Fahy, Emmet Kenny, David McManus and a brace from Ciaran Lennon put the match beyond Boyle. Boyle, to their credit kept plugging away and pulled two points back on the 23rd and 25th Minute. Clann finished the match strongly with further scores from substitutes Cathal Callinan and Ross Naughton with the match ending on a score of Clann 1-17 Boyle 1-4.

All in all this was an impressive outing by Clann but tougher tests lie ahead as we await the winners of the quarter final ties due to be played next week. Our next outing is in the county semi-final on the weekend of 29th/30th September.

The Clann team and scorers were: Ronan O’Reilly, Darra Pettit, Stephen Flynn, David Flynn, Jack Connaughton, Shane Pettit, Ronan Gavin, Graham Pettit, Matt Scally, Emmet Kenny, Ultan Harney, David Connaughton, David McManus, Ciaran Lennon, Jamie Fahy. Subs used: Cian McManus, Sea Henry, Cathal Shine, Ross Naughton, Johnny Dunning, Cathal Callinan.
