U14 Boys – Challenge matches (preparation for League Finals)

With both teams due to compete in their respective Division league finals this coming Bank holiday weekend, a couple of well-timed challenge games this week proved to be excellent preparation for this lads….

Carrick / Sarsfields visited Johnstown last Thursday, and brought a blend of pace and physicality with their game. One of the strongest teams in County Longford, they provided an excellent test for our full squad, where each player got to play at some point, over three periods of 20 minutes.

For their part, Carrick / Sarsfields were delighted with the opportunity to play against a new team, and we wish them every success in their season this year. Many thanks also to our very own Seamie McManus for providing refereeing duties

On Sunday, it was Clann’s turn to travel, loading up the bus in the early morning, and heading off to the beautiful Yeats county, to play St Mary’s Sligo.

With the magnificent Knocknarea as a backdrop, on a perfect Summer’s morning, it was the ideal location for a game of football. St Mary’s are Sligo Feile champions, and proved an ideal challenge for Clann, as they put our lads through their paces, with each member of the squad that travelled seeing some game time. Afterwards the hosts provided refreshments, before the lads made the trip back to Summerhill.

Sincere thanks to St Mary’s for their hospitality and a great day out. Only a week to go now until the Division One team face Roscommon Gaels in the League final, and the Division Four team play St Dominics. We hope that our usual throng of followers will come along and support the lads in their games. Come on lads!

GAA Cúl Camps

Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camps provide boys and girls – between the ages of 6 and 13 – with an action-packed and fun-filled week of activity during the summer holidays which revolves around maximising enjoyment and sustaining participant involvement in Gaelic Games.

The Cúl Camp will take place in Johnstown from Monday 2nd July until Friday 6th July.

Online booking is preferred to ensure child will get the training gear and backpack on the week of the camp. Cost for the first child is €60 with discounts for additional children included. The cost is great value for money, given the gear that will be provided. These camps are hugely successful for the GAA throughout the country and we hope there will be a very large turnout in Johnstown!
