Club Notes - 21/05/18

Under 12 Girls

Our U12 Girls recently completed phase 1 of the 2018 championship having being drawn to play Oran, Padraig Pearses and St. Faithleachs in the first round.

Initially the squad travelled to Oran to take on a strong home team. Clann were slow out of the blocks and found themselves 8 points down at the interval. Bearing in mind that goals and points count equally as a single score in this years competition, our sluggish start left us with an uphill task in the second half. Gradually Clann worked their way back into the game and finished strongly with good performances by Emily McDonnell, Shauna Egan and Ella Kenny to end up beaten on a scoreline of 14 to 7.

St. Faithleachs failed to field a team meaning our remaining group match V Padraig Pearses in Johnstown was a decider in terms of qualification to phase 2 of the competition. The Clann Girls hit the ground running and ran up an impressive first half tally, in the end securing victory by 25 scores to 2. Fair to say this was very much an improved performance from the Girls with Clann dominant in all aspects of play.

Phase 2 of the championship is due to commence this weekend with all teams guaranteed three further matches as the competition intensifies. Best of luck to all the panel involved.

GAA Cúl Camps

Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camps provide boys and girls – between the ages of 6 and 13 – with an action-packed and fun-filled week of activity during the summer holidays which revolves around maximising enjoyment and sustaining participant involvement in Gaelic Games.

The Cúl Camp will take place in Johnstown from Monday 2nd July until Friday 6th July.

Online booking is preferred to ensure child will get the training gear and backpack on the week of the camp. Cost for the first child is €60 with discounts for additional children included. The cost is great value for money, given the gear that will be provided. These camps are hugely successful for the GAA throughout the country and we hope there will be a very large turnout in Johnstown!
