U 14 Boys League

A busy morning for the grounds at Padraig Pearses, which had 2 U14 boys matches, an Intermediate Ladies match, and other training all take place in Woodmount last Sunday. Clann’s first game of the morning (and indeed the League) saw their Div 1 lads take on the home side, followed immediately by their Div 4 teammates. Here’s how it went down…

Div.1 Pearses 0-7, Clann 4-13
A slow game to get going scorewise, it was 7 mins before the ball went over the crossbar, to open up Clann’s tally. They would go 1-2 up before Pearses would respond with 3 points of their own. Another Clann goal, and a series of points exchanged between the sides, had Clann in front at half time 2-4 to 0-5.

The breeze was a strong factor in the second half, helping Clann extend their lead. 2 more goals, and a point scoring spree helped Clann finish strongly 4-13 to 0-7.

Clann Panel – D Quinn, J Shine, E Connaughton (Capt), C McManus, O Hynes, E Henry, D O’Brien (2-2), C Kelly, M Daly, J Gavin (1-1), O O’Flaherty (0-5), T O’Neill (1-1), P O’Leochain (0-3), D Campion, S Gavin (0-1), R Colgan, E Galvin, D Brady, C Westman, K Moroney

Div 4 Pearses 2-3, Clann 0-9
A much more balanced affair, but also taking a while for scores to materialise. Clann did claim the first point, but Pearses not only matched that but then rattled the net twice in 3 minutes to pull ahead, such that by half time, the hosts were ahead by 2-2 to 0-4.

The breeze would feature in this game again (as it did for the Div 1 game beforehand) and helped Clann claw back the gap, with a series of well taken points – the visitors really playing well at this point, and their passes finding their men well. A penalty provided an excellent opportunity to claim the lead, but the Pearses keeper was having none of it, putting in an excellent performance between the sticks today. His and his team’s efforts would see Clann’s progress stop at a draw at the end of this exciting game. Pearses 2-3 Clann 0-9

Clann Panel – L Ward (Capt), K Fallon, E Quinn, M Fallon, D Brady, C Roache, E Galvin, R Colgan (0-1), J Macken (0-2), C Westman, M Lennon, R Moran (0-6), K Moroney, C Moran
