Senior O'Rourke CupClann 1-12 Elphin 1-07
Our Matrix Bathrooms & Kennedy's Service Station/Supermacs sponsored Senior team commenced their O’Rourke Cup League campaign against Elphin under floodlights in Johnstown last Saturday evening.
It took Clann a while to shake off the early season cobwebs as we started very shakily with Elphin racing into a three point lead after eleven minutes of play. Clann settled well and we registered our first score of the new year from the ever reliable boot of Donie Shine from a placed ball after 13 minutes. This was followed five minutes later with another pointed effort, this time from another veteran of the team, Jonathan Dunning.
On the 24th minute, the match took a decisive swing towards Clann as we were awarded a penalty which was duly converted by Donie. Clann pressed on this advantage and finished the half strongly with further points from both Donie and Jonathan leaving the half time score 1-6 to 1-4 in Clann’s advantage.
Clann started the second half much stronger than the first and two further points from Donie within the first eight minutes, one from a free increased Clann’s advantage to four points. Our ‘young guns’ from last year’s minor team Sea Henry and Conor Farrell stepped up to the mark resulting in three scores between them in the half. Elphin to their credit never gave up as is typical of this fine club but it was to be Clann’s evening as we started our league campaign with a steady win on a scoreline of Clann 1-12 Elphin 1-7.

U.16 Div.1 LeagueClann 1-13 Kilmore 2-10
The Clann lads began their season with a draw against a well prepared and determined Kilmore team. Clann got off to a sluggish start, conceding two early goals which put the visitors firmly on top during the initial encounters. Clann gradually got into their stride and started to dominate in all areas of the field and pull their way back into the game to trail narrowly at half time.
The second half began very brightly for Clann and they tagged on a number of scores to take the lead for the first time in the game. But midway through the half, Kilmore had a period of dominance and pulled ahead by three points with about 10 minutes to go. But a show of great character from the Clann boys saw them pull back the deficit securing a share of the points. A decent start to the campaign but work to do and further players to return.
Next up for the U.16 team is a Div.4 game in Kiltoom against near neighbours St. Brigids.
