However, to those involved with this squad, it is clear that their spirit and determination will ultimately see many of the group compete at the highest level for Clann and for Roscommon in the coming years.
This spirit and determination was epitomized by the behaviour and performances of this year’s recipient of the Young Player of the Year. This young Moynure man has all the hall marks of a senior player for the club. In fact, he has already made his debut at senior level in 2017. As well as playing football for the club he has also made time to help with coaching the younger age groups and has also been known to referee the odd game for the younger members of our club.
He has represented Roscommon at U-16 level in 2015, U-17 level in 2016 and Minor level in 2017. His countless runs from midfield and half forward to set up attacks and scores for his team provided the solid base and inspiration for the minor team’s path to both the league and championship finals. These lung-busting runs, coupled with his skilful and determined play, are some of the reasons he was chosen by his peers to receive this award. He has made the successful transition to U-20 level, picking up an U-20 county championship medal in 2016. He won county titles at U-12 in 2011, U-14 in 2012 & 2013, U-16 in 2014. There is no doubt that this young man will go on to represent the Clann na nGael senior team for many years to come, and hopefully add some senior county medals and more to his underage success.
For his outstanding performances in the Clann na nGael minor jersey in 2017, the award for the Clann na nGael Young Player of the Year 2017 goes to:
