Club Person of the Year 2017

This year’s club person of the year first became involved with Gaelic games when, as a nine year old, he moved with his family from Watford, UK to Tuam, County Galway. There he began a stellar underage career for both club and county culminating in an all-Ireland minor title with a Galway team peppered with future senior stars.

There followed a period when GAA became less of a passion. Instead, focus turned to academic endeavour and a career as a successful lawyer began which resulted in a move to Athlone, initially to Summerhill and more recently, Cornafulla. However, the passion for Gaelic Games was never far from the surface and the spark was re-ignited when our winner’s oldest children Séa and Laoise began their involvement with Clann. Since then, our winner has thrown himself into all aspects of our club, starting as mentor with various underage teams, then as an industrious member of the club executive and finally as minor board Chairman. He has filled all roles in the club with great passion and commitment and we hope he continues to do so for many years to come.

Ladies & Gentleman, for his service this year and over many years it gives me immense pleasure to announce this years ‘Club Person of the Year’ and recipient of the ‘Martin McManus’ memorial trophy is:

Tony Henry
