Senior O'Rourke Cup Semi-Final

Our Matrix Bathrooms / Monksland Filling Station sponsored senior team took on St Croans in the O’Rourke Cup semi-final in Enfield last Saturday evening. The match was played in very wet conditions which deteriorated as the game progressed. Croans started strongly and had two unanswered points on the board within four minutes before Clann recorded their first score thanks to a pointed effort from Ross Naughton. This score was followed five minutes later by another point from a free from Ciaran Lennon who took over free taking responsibilities from the absent Donie Shine. On the 12th minute Croans scored the first of their two goals which gave them a four point advantage. The remainder of the half was evenly contested and saw further points executed by Clann from David Flynn and two each from both Ciaran Lennon and Cathal Callinan. This left three points between the teams at half time on a score St Croans 1-7 to Clann 0-7.

Clann performed much better in the second half but once again Croans scored what ultimately proved to be the decisive score of the game when they scored a goal within the first three minutes of the resumption. Clann continued to pick off scores thanks to points from Ross Naughton, a long range effort from Cathal Shine, Cian McManus, Cathal Callinan, three frees from Ciaran Lennon and a well executed 45 from county minor player Sea Henry. However the equalising point was never to come and Croans held out to win on a score line of St. Croans 2-11 Clann 0-15. We wish St. Croans the best of luck in the final.

Clann’s attention now turns back to the Championship as we play Elphin next Sunday in Kiltoom at 2pm in the final group stage match.

Clann team and scorers were: Ronan O’Reilly, David Flynn (0-1), Stephen Flynn, Damien Duff, Emmet Kenny, Shane Pettit, David McManus, Graham Pettit, Matt Scally, Ross Naughton (0-2), Cathal Callinan (0-3), Sea Henry (0-1), Cian McManus (0-1), Cathal Shine (0-1), Ciara Lennon (0-6 5F). Subs: Niall Connaughton for Ross Naughton
