Senior ChampionshipOur Matrix Bathrooms / Monksland Filling Station sponsored Senior team took on Strokestown in the fourth round of the Senior Championship in Dr. Hyde Park last Saturday evening. Clann were on the back foot from the start and a succession of well taken scores left Clann trailing by six points with less than 10 minutes played. Clann eventually got to grips with the match and four points from the ever clinical Donie Shine from placed balls left Clann trailing 0-7 to 0-4 twenty minutes into the game. The last ten minutes of the first half was nip and tuck as both teams traded points, most notably for Clann was a well-executed point from centre back Shane Pettit. After a hard fought competitive first half the teams went in at half time with Strokestown holding the minimum advantage on a scoreline of Strokestown 0-9 Clann 0-8.
Strokestown again enjoyed the early exchanges of the first half scoring two points on the first and sixth minutes to open up a three point lead. Clann however once again fought back and scored four unanswered points from Cathal Shine, David Connaughton and two frees from Donie Shine to level the match level mid-way through the second half. For the remainder of the half scores were hard to come by however Strokestown went back into the lead with four minutes remaining on the clock but Clann were not to be denied a share of the spoils and levelled the match deep in injury time with another well executed free from Donie Shine. This was a hard fought battle and in the end a draw was the fairest result with the full time score thirteen points apiece.
Our senior teams attention now turns back to league action as we take on St Croans in the league Semi-Final in Enfield next Saturday evening at 6pm. We are back in Championship action the following week in the final round of the group stages where we take on Elphin on Sunday 10th September.

U17 All-Ireland FinalClann had 5 players representing Roscommon in the All Ireland final last Sunday. The club are very proud of their achievements this season in the County colours and whilst they didn't quite lift the trophy, it was an astonishingly successful season for all the young Roscommon players from the many clubs throughout the County, aided, in no small part, by our own Oisín Lennon, Paul McManus, Darran Duff, Sean Seery and Adam Harney.
Securing a Connaught title, a great victory over Kerry in the semi final and playing a final in Croke Park will be memories that these young men will have forever. Everyone in Clann na nGael would like to congratulate Liam Tully and his back room team on a great year.
U.16 Boys UpdateOur U.16's finished off the season with a defeat to Boyle in Johnstown last Monday in their last game of the Championship. It was a game that nothing hinged on and, in truth, it lacked intensity, certainly from Clann's point of view. It brought the curtain down on a disappointing season, in terms of results. However, there have been some very encouraging signs and many players have progressed since the start of the year. The management and players had to contend with multiple injuries and absences, which severely hampered their chances of progressing in the competitions. The older group move on to Minor and the younger players have another crack at U.16 next year. Good luck to all the players and thank you for your effort.
The club would like to express its deep appreciation to Denis Gavin for looking after and guiding this group throughout the season. Denis used his vast playing and coaching experience to help these players develop. He was ably assisted by the ever present Mickey Shine and by Ronan Gavin and David Flynn. It is a great credit to Ronan and David, as Senior players, to give their time to help Denis.

U.10 Boys UpdateOur Under 10 Boys squad finished their summer series of Go Games blitzes with a county wide blitz held at the Connacht GAA Centre in Ballyhaunis on Saturday. An excellent turnout of 24 boys made the long trip and played games against Oran, Western Gaels, St Michaels, Roscommon Gaels and St Ciarans. As a special treat and reward for all their hard work, the boys enjoyed a pit stop at Supermacs in Roscommon on the way home.
Special thanks to all parents who travelled on the day and for their ongoing support, to our referee Aoife Fallon and to Roscommon Coaching & Games Development for organising the event - hopefully next year it can be held on Roscommon soil! Training continues as usual with plenty of games still to come. Clann abú!
U.8 Boys UpdateOn Saturday 26th August - 20 young under 8's and their parents made the trip to the fantastic Connacht gaa centre in Ballyhaunis. It was the last of the summer Go Games blitzes. It was a fantastic day and the teams played against Oran, Western Gaels, St Michaels, Ros Gaels and St Ciarans.
It was inspirational to see all our young U8 gentlemen playing with great heart, and most all with natural good Manners and Sportsmanship. These skills are as important as being able to play with the ball.
The Coaching team would like to give special thanks to all parents who travelled on the day and for their ongoing support over the year, to our referee on the day, Gerry Kineavey, and to Roscommon Coaching & Games Development for organising the event. We look forward to a shorter journey next year, but with the same passion and excitement around the event.
