Mens Senior Championship

Our Matrix Bathrooms / Monksland Filling Station sponsored Senior team took on Castlerea in the third round of the Senior Championship in Castlerea last Saturday evening. As per previous matches, Clann started the stronger and were two points to the good inside the first three minutes thanks to Jamie Fahy and Donie Shine. Twenty five minutes into the game Clann got the crucial score of the first half when Donie Shine converted a penalty to give Clann a 1-5 to 0-6 point lead. A further point in injury time from Emmet Kenny ensured Clann had a three point advantage at the break with the half time score being 1-7 to 0-7.

However Clann did not start the second half in the same fashion as the first and conceded three points from frees to bring Castlerea level for the first time in the match. Then followed Clann's best period of the game as they converted six points in a six minute spell to put daylight between the teams. Castlerea to their credit did not give up and deep into injury time scored a excellently executed goal to leave the minimum between the teams and ensure an exciting end to the game. Clann held out to secure the two points and maintain our unbeaten record in this year’s championship. The final score was Clann 1-14 Castlerea 1-13.

A number of Clann players suffered injuries during the match and we wish them well for a speedy return to competitive action.

Clann team and scorers were: Ronan O’Reilly, Dara Pettit, Stephen Flynn, Ronan Gavin, Emmet Kenny (0-1), Shane Pettit, David Flynn, Cathal Shine (0-1), Graham Pettit, Rory McManus, Cian McManus, Matt Scally, Jamie Fahy (0-1), Donie Shine (1-9 5xF, 2x45, 1xP), Ciaran Lennon.
