Men's Senior League
Our Matrix Bathrooms and Supermacs Monksland sponsored Senior team met near neighbours Padraig Pearses in the O’Rourke Cup in a match played in perfect conditions in Johnstown on Sunday afternoon. As was the case in recent encounters Clann started brightly and went ahead on the 5th minute with a pointed free from Donie Shine. Ciaran Lennon followed with another point from play shortly later, however against the run of play Pearses overturned possession in the clann full back line and scored an opportunistic goal.Clann continued to dominate and scored four unanswered scores from Cathal Callinan, Emmet Kenny after great work from Donie Shine and Ciaran Lennon and two further efforts from Donie Shine, one from play and one from a free. Pearses scored their second score of the match on 24 minutes before two pointed frees from Donie and a long range effort from Matt Scally in injury time finished the half well for Clann. Clann went into the interval with a well deserved 0-9 to 1-1 lead.
Clann failed to continue to bring the good form of the first half into the second and let Pearses back into the match. Clann scored just four points in the second half, two pointed efforts from Donie Shine and one each from David Connaughton and a Ciaran Lennon free with the last kick of the match. The final score was Clann 0-13, Pearses 1-5.
The Clann team and scorers was David Finneran, Darra Pettit, Stephen Flynn, Ronan Gavin, Jack Connaughton, Feargal Lennon, Emmet Kenny (0-1), Matt Scally (0-1), Ultan Harney, David Connaughton (0-1), Donie Shine (0-7, 0-6F), Cian McManus, Jamie Fahy, Ciaran Lennon (0-2, 0-1F) , Cathal Callinan (0-1). Subs used: Ross Naughton, Shane Pettit, Cillian Bannon, Ciaran Connaughton
The Senior team’s next outing is on Sunday week 7th May in the first round of the championship against Kilmore in Johnstown.
U.16 Div.4 League
Clann 13-15 Michael Glaveys 6-6A big win for our boys in the last game of the group stages of the Division 4 league in Johnstown on Sunday. The second half saw Clann pull away from the visitors after a relatively even first half. Two wins and two losses in the league is not a bad return for our second team at this age group. Anyone who has witnessed the games will be in no doubt that the players have developed hugely since the start of the season and it has been well worth entering a second team. They may be in a semi final against St Croans, but that has yet to be confirmed.
Squad: Patrick Moran, Damien Kelly, Cian Gavin, Micheál McClean, Shane Flannery, John Feeney, Joseph Kelly, Rian Carpenter, Michael Kelly (4-0), Ian Harney (1-3), Jesse Middleton (0-1), Fionnán Henry (2-4), James Keane Flanagan (2-2), Gary Mulvihill (1-0), Josh Lennon (1-2), Alan Mulvey (2-3).
U.14 Div.4 League
Eire Og 0-6 Clann 9-16The Clann U.14 train kept on rolling last Saturday when the Division 4 team recorded a comprehensive win over Eire Og up in Loughglynn. Traveling with a large squad, (no fewer than 24 on this particular day), the bus trip up and back was as much an occasion as the match itself, and all the lads were in good spirits.
Clann opened up an attack early, and had scored 2-2 in the first 5 minutes, before Eire Og had replied with a single point. More scores followed from an in-form Clann, who worked well as a team, starting many of their plays from the half backline, combining well with a hardworking midfield, who in turn found runners heading deep into the Eire Og defence and finished with a series of scores. Eire Og did rally back briefly in the middle of the period with a few points, before Clann applied themselves again to finish the half 4-8 to 0-4.
Quite a dilemma faced the Clann management at that point, with only an 11 a-side team, and the mandated maximum of 6 subs, they had as many players on the bench as on the field. With the 6 changes made, they started the second half and continued on a scoring spree, reaching 5-13 before Eire Og would score again. At that point, with the result beyond question, all parties involved agreed to allow the remaining subs to play, and all players who made the long trip got some game time. Final score 0-6 to Clann’s 9-16. Many thanks to the loyal supporters who accompanied the team today.
Unfortunately, the aforementioned Clann U14 train must now stop for the time being, as all remaining Div 4 fixtures have been conceded / withdrawn by the other teams. Clann must await the semifinal results in late May, before finding out their opponents for the League final on 4th June. We’ll ensure they get plenty of training / challenge games between now and then.
Meanwhile, the U14 Division 1 team host Boyle this coming Thursday 27th April, throw in 6:30pm in Johnstown

Ladies Senior League
Clann 3-12 Kilglass 3-06Clann Senior ladies made it two wins in a row in the league when they came from six points down at half time to win out in the end by six points in a very exciting league encounter against Kilglass Gaels on Sunday morning last in Johnstown.
Once again Clann were slow to start and found themselves two goals down after just five minutes as Kilglass started very brightly indeed. In fairness to Clann, they slowly began to get a grip on proceedings as the half wore on but they just couldn't convert their possession into scores as they wasted chance after chance and ran up 17 wides in the first half. The two Kilglass goals were the difference between the sides at the break as they lead by 2-03 to Clann's 0-03. Clann's three points coming from Aoife O'Brien, Sinead Farrell and Caoinhe Lennon.
Clann began much brighter in the second half and slowly began to eat into the Kilglass lead with points from Lennon, a goal from Farrell and 2 points from Kayleigh Dunning with the only replay from Kilglass being a goal to leave the sides level after 45 minutes. Then Clann really got a grip with another goal from captain Ruth Fingless and further points from Lennon (4), Michell Reynolds and Saoirse McManus with the only Kilglass reply being two points to leave Clann victors on a scoreline of 3-12 to 3-06.
Clann: Eaodain Lennon, Ida Crehan, Ciara Quinn, Lauren McDonald, Amy Quinn, Shauna Bannon, Orla O Neill, Ruth Finglass (1-0), Saoirse McManus (0-1), Trease Lennon, Caoimhe Lennon (0-6), Sinead Farrell (1-1), Kayleigh Dunning (0-2), Michael Reynolds (0-1) and Aoife O Brien (1-1). Sub: Kim Finglass for O'Brien.
Girls Féile
Féile Semi-FinalIn near-perfect conditions for football, Clann na nGael’s U-14 girls set about reaching this year’s County Féile Final, with a 3pm kick-off on Easter Monday, in Kiltoom, against a well-organised and disciplined Padraig Pearses team.
The Clann girls quickly found their rhythm, with Midfield securing much possession and the Forward unit taking their scores, Clann found themselves leading by a score-line of 3-7 to 1-0 by the time the half-time whistle sounded, goals having come from Caireann McGoldrick (2) and Casey O’Neill.
Soon into the Second Half, and with a County Final looming an hour later, a number of Clann’s substitutes were introduced and all made a significant contribution towards closing out the game, on a final score of 4-10 to 2-0, the final Clann goal coming from Grace Hannon, just before she left the field to avail of a well-earned breather.
As with every game the Clann girls had played this year, this semi-final was yet another great team effort by all.
Panel: Amanda Ryan (0-1), Amy O’Brien, Anna Golden, Aoife McGoldrick, Ava Brady, Caireann McGoldrick (2-1), Caoilin McClean, Caoimhe Kelly, Casey O’Neill (1-3), Danielle Gately, Eimear Naughton, Éimhín Feeney (0-1), Eva Bea Mulligan, Giollaiosa Jamil, Grace Hannon (1-2), Isabelle Quinn, Lucia Reynolds (0-2), Mia Macken, Niamh Jordan, Niamh McTeague, Orla Kildea, Rachel O’Brien, Sarah Shine, Tara O’Neill, Vivienne Harney-Nolan.
Féile Final
Having accounted for Padraig Pearses in the semi-final, Clann na nGael’s U-14 girls' attention turned to this year’s County Féile Final, with a 5pm kick-off on Easter Monday, in Kiltoom, against our near neighbour’s St. Brigids, who had just breezed past Castlerea in their semi-final.
With St. Brigids having home advantage and with a number of County U-14 players in their ranks, this was always going to be a difficult encounter for the Clann Team and it was clear, from the outset, that Clann were going to have to play to the very best of their potential to overcome the threat posed by a very well-drilled and physically strong St. Brigids outfit.
Following a number of tactical switches on the St. Brigids team, which led to a couple of early St. Brigids scores, Clann quickly re-organised and soon gained the momentum which saw them claw back St. Brigids advantage. Following a well-taken goal from Lucia Reynolds, the teams reached the half-time interval on level terms, both teams having scored 1-2.
Playing into the late-evening sun for the second half, Clann were now just 20 minutes away from achieving Féile success, but with much hard work yet to be done. With, amongst others, Ava Brady and Mia Macken taking a firm grip of proceedings in defence, Amanda Ryan and Anna Golden became dominant in the middle of the field. This provided the forward unit, in particular Grace Hannon, Casey O’Neill and Caireann McGoldrick, the room and the supply of ball to tag on some vital scores in that second half, a half in which Clann out-scored their opponents by 0-5 to 0-1.
In what was a nail-biting finish, the large crowd of Clann supporters gathered were eventually relieved to hear the full-time whistle sound, on a final scoreline of Clann na nGael 1-7, St. Brigids 1-3. This truly was a team effort, with every player on the Clann panel having played their part in this great achievement.
Panel: Amanda Ryan (0-1), Amy O’Brien, Anna Golden, Aoife McGoldrick, Ava Brady, Caireann McGoldrick (0-2), Caoilin McClean, Caoimhe Kelly, Casey O’Neill (0-3), Danielle Gately, Eimear Naughton, Éimhín Feeney, Eva Bea Mulligan, Giollaiosa Jamil, Grace Hannon (0-1), Isabelle Quinn, Lucia Reynolds (1-0), Mia Macken, Niamh Jordan, Niamh McTeague, Orla Kildea, Rachel O’Brien, Sarah Shine, Tara O’Neill, Vivienne Harney-Nolan.
