Senior League

Strokestown 0-08 Clann 2-12
The Supermacs and Matrix Bathrooms sponsored Clann na nGael Senior team made the trip to Strokestown on Easter Sunday for an O’Rourke Cup match against Strokestown. The match was played in ideal conditions and the travelling Clann supporters encountered a solid performance from the away team.

Clann started very strongly and had 1-2 on the board within four minutes thanks to a Donie Shine free, a Ciaran Lennon point and a well worked goal from Ciaran Lennon after some positive play from Donie. Jamie Fahy added another point after eleven minutes but Clann only added one more point from before half time thanks to another Jamie Fahy point. The Half time score was Clann 1-4 Strokestown 0-3.

Clann once again started the second half very strongly and scored a Jamie Fahy goal within two minutes of the re-start following some good work from Ciaran Lennon who gained possession and ran at the Strokestown defence before delivering the ball across to Fahy who palmed the ball into the net giving the Strokestown goalkeeper no chance. From this point on Clann dominated the second half adding further points from Donie Shine (3 frees), a long rage effort from full back Stephen Flynn, Jack Connaughton, Ross Naughton and two further points from Jamie Fahy. The final score was Clann na nGael 2-12 Strokestown 0-8.

Clann team was: David Finneran, Darra Pettit, Stephen Flynn (0-1), Ronan Gavin, Jack Connaughton (0-1), Fergal Lennon, Emmet Kenny, Cathal Shine, Ultan Harney, David Connaughton, Donie Shine (0-4 all frees), Cian McManus, Jamie Fahy (1-4), Ciaran Lennon (1-1), Cathal Callinan. Subs used: Graham Pettit, Shane Pettit, Cillian Bannon, Matt Scally, Ross Naughton (0-1), Sean McManus.

Our Senior team’s next outing is an away match in the O’Rourke cup against Pearses on Sunday next 23rd April at 2pm

Minor League

11/04/17 Clann na nGael 3-17 St. Brigids 1-18
Clann Minors had their fourth outing of the Minor League on Tuesday last in the re-fixed 2nd round game. The game had originally been pencilled in for the 5th March but was called off due to bad weather.
In a game that would have been a joy for the purist and a neutral Clann ran out winners following a great contest.

The home team opened much brighter and deservedly led by 5 points having dominated the opening quarter before Clann opened their account. Clann then had a period on top and brought parity to the game by the 25 min but a purple patch again for the home side left them going in at half-time leading by 0-11 to 0-5.

Clann opened the second half in determined mood and brought the gap between the teams back to a point, but a goal and point from the home side increased the gap again. The final quarter finally saw Clann get their noses in front for the first time in the game and in the end they prevailed by a 5 point margin.
This was a game that could have gone either way and both sides will have learned a lot from the fixture.

Clann Panel: S. Seery, S. Ryan, C. Costello, D. Duff (1-1), A. Wall, M. Mc Manus, O. Rock, A. Harney, D. Sumner, O. Lennon, P. Mc Manus (0-2), R. Moran (0-2), S. Henry (0-5), L. Donnelly (0-1), J. Mc Manus, C. O'Brien (2-5), R. Hardiman (0-1), Ant. Kelly, And. Kelly, E. Fallon, A. Francis, C. Lennon, C. Farrell, F. Lennon, M. Hanley.

15/04/17 Clann na nGael 1-11 Castlerea 3-9
Clann Minors had their final group game in the league last Saturday in Johnstown against a very committed Castlerea side. Like the previous Tuesday evenings league game against St. Brigids, this was a game full of good football and honest hard endeavour by both sides that would have been enjoyed by the neutral supporter.
Both halves were fairly evenly matched but in the end Castlerea's greater hunger for the win meant that they left Johnstown with the 2 points on offer.

Clann have played all their league games at this stage but will now have to wait on the outcome of the 3 outstanding games left in the league, but they know that they will still have at least another game in the knock out stages of the league and all involved know that they will have to up the effort and performance.

Clann Panel: S. Seery, A. Francis, O. Rock, A. Wall, A. Harney, R. Moran, D. Reynolds, D. Duff, M. Mc Manus, O. Lennon, D. Sumner, P. Mc Manus (0-2), L. Donnelly (0-2), S. Henry (1-0), J. Mc Manus, C. O'Brien (0-5), R. Hardiman (0-2), F. Lennon, C. Lennon, Anthony Kelly, E. Fallon, C. Fallon Mc Gowan.

U.14 League

Div.1 - St Brigids 3-9 Clann na nGael 4-16
Clann put in a great second half performance to secure a win against their local rivals in Kiltoom on Sunday. The concession of two late goals in the first half, meant that Clann held the most slender of leads at the break, having played with the wind.

A spirited second half display was epitomised by a much tighter defensive effort and a more clinical attack, especially in terms of point taking. The hosts were not helped with a couple of injuries in the 2nd period.
Clann continue their run of good results but tough games remain against Boyle and Padraig Pearses in the group stages of the league.

Squad: Neil Hannon, Ollie Hynes, Alan McManus, Brendan Costello, Luke Gavin, Ian Harney (0-2), Thomas Lennon, Jason Mulvey, Conor O'Reilly (3-2), Shane Cleary (0-1), Gary Mulvihill (1-2), Adam Milton (0-2), Sean O'Connor, John Shine (0-3), Páidí O'Leochain. (0-2), Tomás O'Neill (0-1), Éanna Henry, Shane Gavin (0-1)

Unfortunately the Div.4 team didn't get any game time in Kiltoom as the host were unable to field a team, but there will be plenty more games for them coming up.
